About Riptide Server
Riptide is a tool by ASE Technologies that enables users of popular content management systems to generate, assemble, and distribute dissimilar content to printer(s), fax and/or email devices.
The Wireframe
ASE provided a rough layout that included all areas of the homepage that was to be included in the design. The infographic represents movement and waves that play off the Riptide Server logo. There we no major restrictions other than presenting two concepts, with one being more corporate than the other.

Concept 1
This is the “less corporate” concept, mostly because of the wave imagery focus, the tagline type treatment and the overall layout of the page.

Concept 2
This is the “more corporate” concept, mostly because of the stock looking photography. I didn’t want the “more corporate” design to be too corporate and boring – so I introduced some clean, curvy, abstract shapes and textures.

Innerpage
ASE Technologies picked concept 1 with minimal changes. I created a matching innerpage and then was hired to develop the html/css.

Custom Lightbox
This is my first attempt at product photography. The goal was to create a professional looking photo with a really low overhead -just in case this was my first and last shoot. The shoot was for Visionaire Optics, an existing design client. To save a few bucks I decided to make my own lightbox rather than buy one. I did some online research on homemade lightboxes and built my own from scratch. You can see the outcome below. It’s about as simple and cheap as you can get. Supplies included; white foam core, clear tape, shop lamps and daylight bulbs. Overall cost $26. Note: The Visionaire Optics logo is also a Whipple Design project.

Frame Detail
It took a few shots to get the right position. I played with exposure settings to get the background as white as possible. The image was brought into Photoshop where I adjust the level settings to blow out the background completely. I also tweaked the saturation and sharpen settings to get the image just right. Below is the final image – these images will be used online and in catalogs.

Frame Thumbnails
I shot 8 frame styles. Each style had 4 color variations.

Wrap
I estimated the cost per frame. I was flexible with pricing since the was a first time learning experience. Let me say that I spent the most time setting up the frame positioning and the camera settings. Next estimate will include a fee for set-up. I did enjoy this project and liked the outcome.

About RAIN Group
RAIN Group is a sales performance improvement company. Located in greater Boston, they help companies with complex products and services develop an army of rainmakers – top performers who drive robust revenue growth.
Inspiration
RAIN Group is owned and operated by the same people that bring you RainToday.com and the Wellesley Hills Group. The RAIN Group logo was designed to mimic the look and feel of both those companies – the mark from the Wellesley Hills logo and the font/colors from the RainToday.com logo. RAIN Group also wanted the mark to play off their RAIN Selling infographic. Note: The RainToday.com logo is also a Whipple Design project.

Font Exploration
I looked at a few serif fonts and showed the tagline in various formats.

Marks Presented
I did several variations of the mark that incorporates the RAIN Selling infographic.

Final Logo
The client selected Garamond as the font and chose one of the marks with a few modifications.

Clients Short Description
The Wrentham Times provides news to the community in any format they want. Web site, email, on FB, twitter. Eventually, there will be special print editions. I’m looking for those three words “The Wrentham Times” to look good on top of a news paper, like The New York Times, but also look right on a web site, business cards, etc.
Client Selected Inspiration Logos
Some key words for the new logo were; Community. Timelessness. The feel of an old time kind of community paper with a hip flair.

Concepts Presented
I did a few black and white ideas.

Selected Logo with Changes
The first concept was selected. I made some minor changes to the “T” in “Times”. We tweaked the tail of the “T” to look less like a “C”. That was it! The client really loved the first round of concepts. Comment from the client: “I have to say I dig all three. A LOT. You really did a great job turning my comments into the perfect looks. When I open #1 I said that’s it!”

Colors
Green was the clients choice of color from the beginning. But rather than using the organic green like in the Harlow Farm logo – I felt a brighter, fresher looking combo of greens would support that hip, flair feel the client was after.

Final Logos
In addition to the logo, I also created a secondary mark that can be used in support of the brand.

Wrap
Go to The Wrentham Times Website to see the logo in action. You can see how the secondary mark is used on their Twitter page. Clients final words: “They are both perfect! Awesome. Thank you.”
