Riptide Server Website Design + CSS

By WhippleDesign in CSS, Website Design

About Riptide Server
Riptide is a tool by ASE Technologies that enables users of popular content management systems to generate, assemble, and distribute dissimilar content to printer(s), fax and/or email devices.

The Wireframe
ASE provided a rough layout that included all areas of the homepage that was to be included in the design. The infographic represents movement and waves that play off the Riptide Server logo. There we no major restrictions other than presenting two concepts, with one being more corporate than the other.

Concept 1
This is the “less corporate” concept, mostly because of the wave imagery focus, the tagline type treatment and the overall layout of the page.

Concept 2
This is the “more corporate” concept, mostly because of the stock looking photography. I didn’t want the “more corporate” design to be too corporate and boring – so I introduced some clean, curvy, abstract shapes and textures.

Innerpage
ASE Technologies picked concept 1 with minimal changes. I created a matching innerpage and then was hired to develop the html/css.

Eye Society Product Photography

Custom Lightbox
This is my first attempt at product photography. The goal was to create a professional looking photo with a really low overhead -just in case this was my first and last shoot. The shoot was for Visionaire Optics, an existing design client. To save a few bucks I decided to make my own lightbox rather than buy one. I did some online research on homemade lightboxes and built my own from scratch. You can see the outcome below. It’s about as simple and cheap as you can get. Supplies included; white foam core, clear tape, shop lamps and daylight bulbs. Overall cost $26. Note: The Visionaire Optics logo is also a Whipple Design project.

Frame Detail
It took a few shots to get the right position. I played with exposure settings to get the background as white as possible. The image was brought into Photoshop where I adjust the level settings to blow out the background completely. I also tweaked the saturation and sharpen settings to get the image just right. Below is the final image – these images will be used online and in catalogs.

Frame Thumbnails
I shot 8 frame styles. Each style had 4 color variations.

Wrap
I estimated the cost per frame. I was flexible with pricing since the was a first time learning experience. Let me say that I spent the most time setting up the frame positioning and the camera settings. Next estimate will include a fee for set-up.  I did enjoy this project and liked the outcome.
